The Gazette Du Bon Ton was an influential lifestyle and fashion magazine published in France from 1912 to 1925. It was founded by Lucien Vogel and both inspired and reflected the latest developments in fashion, lifestyle and beauty of the changing period.    

An important part of the Gazette was its fashion illustrations. Each issue featured ten full-page separate fashion and life style plates produced with the hand color pochoir stencil process.  The fashions and styles used in Downton Abbey, which occurred during the same time period were influenced by the Gazette Du Bon Ton. 

 Fetes Galantes is poetry by Paul Verlaine completed in 1869. The illustrations of Fetes Galantes from 1928 feature figures in ball dress or masquerade costumes often disporting themselves amorously in parkland settings. 

The pochoir style illustrations are the work of Art Deco artist George Barbier. The original illustrations are from an edition of only 1200. 

Falbalas et Fanfreluches (means “Ruffles and Frills") was a series of pochoir print portfolios by George Barbier published from 1922–1926. It is a series of whimsical situations often of various liaisons and amours often with a mildly erotic tone. 

Falbalas et Fanfreluches was published in a limited edition of 600 copies with twelve plates in each annual issue. The hand-colored by pochoir used up to thirty stencils per image and is extremely well executed and very sumptuous in coloring.

  Journal des Dames et des Modes was one of the first French fashion magazines of the early new twentieth century. It was published before the famous Gazette Du Bon Ton. French art deco illustrators, such as George Barbier, Léon Bakst, Bernard Boutet de Monvel Roger Broders, Jan van Brock, Umberto Brunelleschi, H. Robert Dammy, Gerda Wegener and others participated in creating the sophisticated fashion plates which Journal des Dames was noted. 

The Journal des Dames life was short lied - only from 1012 to 1914, It was limited to 1279 copies with a total of 186 pochoir hand color stencil fashion plates. The fashions and styles used in Downton Abbey, which occurred during the same earlier time period were influenced by the Journal des Dames et des Modes.

For Les Quatre Saisons Paul Allier created four lovely pochoir plates illustrating the Four Seasons [Automme, L'Hiver, Les Printemps, L'Ete] 

There are only 1,000 original sets of images. 

Paul Allier was an artist for L’Assiette au Beurre, Femina, Flirt, Le Jardin des Modes and Vogue. In addition, he created designs for theatre and produced book illustrations. His work was produced in small limited editions of pochoir often in collaboration with Galerie Lutetia, Paris.
