The vases and figures were carefully engraved and are a fine representation of ancient Greek pottery. Figures and scenes of heroic and mythological scenes including Heracles, Apollo, Achilles, Athena, etc.
Sir Henry Charles Englefield was a prominent writer and collector of antiquities. He was also a member of the Society of Antiquaries and the Dilettanti Society.

Merigot visited each of the ruins and drew them in person. Scenes include Arch of Titus, The Coliseum, Ponte Rotto, Tomb of Nero, etc.
